KUKA Group Expands Environmental Ambitions with Targets for 2050

KUKA (Germany) - The KUKA Group, a global benchmark in robotics and automation, has announced ambitious environmental objectives aimed at transforming the company into a model of sustainability. The group has set comprehensive targets to be achieved by 2050, including carbon-neutral production and a 90% reduction in emissions across the entire value chain.

According to CEO Peter Mohnen, KUKA sees its corporate and social responsibility as a fundamental part of shaping the future of work. "As a global technology company, we have the duty to develop products and solutions that conserve resources, as well as to implement improvements in our daily operations. We have set clear targets for the entire value chain," Mohnen stated.

Among the main objectives of the KUKA Group is to reduce emissions from its direct activities (encompassing Scopes 1 and 2) by at least 40% by 2030, taking 2022 as the baseline. The company also aims to achieve complete climate neutrality by 2050. Additionally, the group is committed to reducing emissions along the entire value chain (Scope 3) by 20% by 2030, with an ambitious cut of 90% by 2050.

To realise these goals, the KUKA Group will invest significantly in improving the energy efficiency of its sites by implementing targeted measures that enable greater electricity generation from renewable sources. Another important step will be the electrification of its vehicle fleet, contributing to a reduction in emissions associated with mobility.

KUKA Group's commitment to sustainability has been internationally recognised. The company was nominated for the 2024 German Sustainability Award, at a ceremony celebrating exemplary ecological and social achievements. In addition, it received the ESG Transparency Award in the “Excellence” category for its performance in integrating forward-looking sustainability practices and for transparently communicating its initiatives.

This new environmental strategy reinforces the role of the KUKA Group not only as a leader in technological innovation but also as a benchmark in the transformation towards a more sustainable business model, aligned with the global challenges of transitioning to a low-carbon future.
