UPTEC Graduate Acquired by North American Company Reaches 40 Countries

Universidade de Porto (Portugal) - Press Release: Adapttech, which specializes in lower limb prosthetics using Artificial Intelligence, has been acquired by Amparo.

Adapttech, a startup that graduated from UPTEC – the Science and Technology Park of the University of Porto, operates in the field of lower limb prosthetics through Artificial Intelligence and has now been acquired by Amparo. With this acquisition, the company now reaches 40 countries worldwide, with a particular focus on future expansion in Asia and the Middle East.

The “new” Amparo — which will retain its name — will combine the “data-driven insights acquired by Adapttech” with the physical fittings of the American company. Through the Motio StepWatch, it will be possible to monitor patient activity and provide data to the clinical team, allowing for better decision-making in prosthetic care.

Frederico Carpinteiro, former CEO of Adapttech and current CEO of Amparo, states that “this agreement opens up enormous growth opportunities and allows us to reach more people faster, significantly amplifying the impact of our technologies.”

For the founder of Adapttech and a master's graduate in Bioengineering from the Faculty of Engineering of U.Porto (FEUP), “the focus remains on internationalization. Our goal is to strengthen our presence in the markets, offering higher-quality products to meet users' needs.”

The combined company will have a team of 16 specialists in mechanical and biomedical engineering, as well as other areas such as operations, communication, and management.
